showing up

Woody Allen is famously quoted as saying,  “Eighty percent of success is showing up.”  From what I can tell about this NaBloPoMo and NaNoWriMo, he’s on to something.

I’ve read my share of blogs and books in my time, but I’ve never had the experience that I’ve had as this month, as we all enter into the downhill side of the month’s challenge. Ever the proverbial observer, I’ve never been an actual participant in something of this magnitude. And even though I am simply blogging daily, the dedication and commitment I’ve witnessed on the parts of all participants astounds me as I witness writers literally make time in their already jam-packed schedules, to write.

All in all, it is a challenge of epic proportions for those to be in it for the long haul… to stick with it when the lure of friends heading for the movies or out to dinner beckons… or the latest episode of a Showtime series is playing in the other room….
Am I at a loss for what to write about today? HECK NO! I’ve got a list beside my computer to draw upon for inspiration. But today, I am inspired by all who are sticking to their guns and their keyboards. I diverge from my original topic of writing about life beyond the mask of make up, although believe me, I could make that tie into this. I’d simply rather not.

For me, both require a semblance of courage and commitment to showing up.
